After moving to Old Trafford for £27 million in the summer of 2004, the England captain got his Red Devils career off to the perfect start against Fenerbahce
12 years ago on Wednesday, Wayne Rooney announced himself to the Old Trafford faithful with a memorable hat-trick on his Manchester United debut.
After being signed for £25.6m from Everton in the summer of 2004, Rooney made his first appearance for United in a Champions League clash with Fenerbahce on September 28.
The club's new No.8 did not take long to impress, scoring three goals in a 6-2 victory that left Red Devils fans salivating at the prospect of what more was to come.
Rooney may be a little out of favour at Old Trafford 12 years on, but his superb showing on his debut against Fenerbahce will live long in the memory of all those who witnessed it.
